Description
No. 47A is a corner terraced house with a later shop, built around 1790 as part of the Portman Estate development. The building is constructed of stock brick with a stucco ground floor and has a concealed slate roof. It is slightly set forward from the adjacent properties numbered 47 to 52. The house features a two-window wide front with a four-window return to Blandford Street, of which two windows are blind.
On the ground floor, there is a mid-20th century shop front, but the original doorway remains on the left side of the Manchester Street front. This doorway is semicircular arched, adorned with Coade imposts and a keystone, and includes a panelled door and fanlight. The upper floors have recessed sash windows beneath flat gauged arches, and there is a plat band at the first floor that finishes off the stuccowork. The building is topped with a stone coped parapet. It is included in the listing for its group value.
