Description

28A Manchester Street is part of a terrace of houses built around 1790 as part of the Portman Estate development, which is located near Manchester Square and is contemporary with Baker Street. The buildings are constructed from stock brick, with the ground floors faced in stucco, except for Nos. 42 to 46, which are mostly channelled. The roofs are concealed slate. The terrace features similar elevations to Nos. 18 to 27 across the street.

The houses are four storeys tall with basements and mostly have two-window wide fronts, although No. 30 has three windows and No. 36 has four. The doorways are mostly semicircular arched and located to the left, with adjoining doorways for Nos. 28-29 and Nos. 31-32. The doorways are adorned with enriched Coade imposts and varied bearded head keystones, along with panelled doors, moulded doorheads, and fanlights, some of which retain a radial pattern. The upper floors feature recessed sashes under flat gauged red brick arches. There is a plat band on the first floor that finishes off the stuccowork, and the buildings are topped with crowning stucco cornices and blocking courses. Additionally, there are cast iron geometric pattern balconies across the first floor and cast iron area railings with urn finials.
