Description

This is a mid-19th century terrace of houses located on Chepstow Road in Westminster. The terrace comprises numbers 22 to 68 (even). The houses are constructed of stucco, with a roof that is not visible, and exhibit a balanced design. Each house is three storeys high, with a basement, and is two windows wide. The central four houses project slightly forward, and feature fluted Corinthian columns that extend through the first and second floors. The end pairs of houses also project slightly, with giant pilasters to the corners and between the houses on the first and second floors. The ground floor is channelled. The houses have square-headed entrances and windows, with panelled doors and architraves to the first and second-floor windows. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars. Most houses feature a continuous cast iron balcony with a tented canopy supported on elaborate Greek key patterned ironwork along the ground floor. The central and end houses have balconies shaded by a first-floor balcony with cast iron trellis supports instead. First-floor window guards are present on other houses. A cornice sits above the second floor, although it has been mutilated on some of the houses.
