Description

A pair of semi-detached houses dating to around 1840, located on Clifton Hill (including No 58 Abbey Road). The houses are built of stucco and have slate hipped roofs extending to the eaves. No. 53 is three windows wide, while No. 58 has two windows facing Clifton Hill (one of which is blind), with an entrance on the return side. The entrance to No. 53 is sheltered by a projecting, pilastered porch. Both entrances are topped by late 19th-century iron and glass canopies, the one at No. 58 having openwork cast iron supports. The windows are square-headed and have architraves, with margin glazing to the upper floor. Bracketed eaves are present. A continuous cast iron balcony runs along the ground floor, extending around to the Abbey Road facade.
