Description
Nos 40 to 48 Connaught Street is a terrace of buildings dating from the early 19th century. The buildings are constructed of brown brick, with stucco on No 40 and the right section of No 42. The ground floor features channelled stucco throughout, with stucco dressings. The terrace is four storeys high, with a basement and an attic in the corner range. Nos 44 to 48 have two bays, while the corner range has three bays facing Connaught Street, which includes a full-height bow. The entrance to No 40 is a pedimented angled entrance located within the bow. No 42 features a Doric porch with a round-arched entrance that has double doors beneath a fanlight. The rest of the terrace has 19th-century shop fronts. There is an iron balcony on the first floor with a stucco balustrade above the porch of No 42. The windows are mainly sash, with glazing bars, and some casements. The corner range and No 48 have pediments above the first-floor windows, and there is a band at the third floor. The corner range also features a modillion cornice and a balustraded parapet, while Nos 42 and 44 have a dentil cornice. Iron railings are present at the basement of No 42.
