Description
A terrace of houses numbered 8 to 48, Abbey Gardens, dating to approximately 1850. The buildings are constructed of stucco over brick, with stucco dressings. They are three storeys high with a basement. Each house has a two-window frontage, and the central and end pairs project slightly, creating a balanced appearance. The ground floor features channelling, and each house has a slightly projecting Ionic porch to the right of the entrance. Panelled doors provide access. A continuous, bombé balcony runs across the first floor. The windows are sash windows with margin glazing; they have architraves above the ground floor and cornices to the first floor, with pediments above the centre and end houses. A console cornice is above the second floor. A parapet tops the buildings. This terrace is one of two matching terraces that line Abbey Gardens and reflects group value with its companion terrace.
