Description
Nos 135 to 137 on New Bond Street are commercial premises built between 1876 and 1877 by W I Sams. The building features a stone-faced early 20th-century ground floor and stuccoed upper floors, topped with a slate roof. It stands five storeys high and is three bays wide. The ground floor showcases early 20th-century shop windows framed by stone pilasters and an entablature, with a central doorway flanked by fluted Ionic columns that support a broken segmental pediment. The upper floors display banded rustication and a strong vertical emphasis, achieved through the use of Ionic pilasters and columns that divide the windows into three sashed lights each. There is a blind balcony at the second floor level, an enriched plat band at the third floor, and a boldly decorated frieze that carries segmental pediments beneath the balustrade and the fancifully ornamental dormers of the attic storey. The hall at the rear of the premises is not of special interest.
