Description

This is a mid-18th century house that was altered in the early to mid-19th century, with a shop front inserted at that time. The facade was rebuilt in the 1930s, but the shop front was preserved. The building is four storeys high and has brick upper floors with metal casement windows. The early to mid-19th century shop front is timber and stucco, featuring two large windows, a central shop entrance, and a doorway providing access to the upper floors to the left. The shop front is framed by a pilaster with rosettes near the top, a decorative moulding below the fascia, and a moulded cornice topped by pierced ironwork cresting, with sculpted Royal Arms in the centre. Ornamental cast iron area railings are present. The shop windows are divided by glazing bars into 3 x 4 panes, with a row of octagonal framed panes at the top. A corniced hood is supported by wrought iron brackets above the central shop doorway, and the door is panelled and glazed. The building is listed principally for the quality of its shop front.
