Description
32 Bruton Street is a terrace house built around 1770, with alterations made around 1830. It features a stucco exterior and a slate roof. The building stands four storeys tall, including a basement and a slated mansard roof with dormers. The façade is three windows wide, with a channelled ground floor and a Greek Doric porch on the right side. There is a main cornice at the third floor level, and the attic storey has its own cornice and a balustraded parapet. The windows have architrave surrounds, with the first-floor sashes featuring alternate segmental and triangular pediments, along with cast iron balconettes. The upper floor sashes retain their glazing bars, and there are cast iron area railings.
Inside, the ground floor room has a screen made of two composite columns from around 1830, and the staircase balustrade dates to the mid-19th century. The first-floor former drawing room showcases delicate plasterwork on the ceiling from the late 18th century, along with shallow wall panels that frame cameos, which may also be from the 18th century or an early 20th-century version.
