Description
No 22 Bruton Street is a terrace house built in the mid-18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The exterior is made of painted brick and features stucco window dressings. The building has four storeys and a fish scale slated mansard roof with dormers. It is three windows wide and has a main stone cornice at the third floor level. The shop front was updated in the mid-20th century. To the left of the entrance, there is a stuccoed doorcase with a console bracketed cornice above the overdoor. The first floor windows have alternate segmental and triangular 19th-century pediments, and the sashes do not have glazing bars. The second floor windows have cornices, and there is a 19th-century balustraded parapet. Inside, the building features an open string stone staircase with wrought iron scroll panels between straight banisters, which was altered around 1900 to turn at a right angle by a column in the hall. The first floor drawing room retains its Rococo plasterwork ceiling, which was refurbished around 1900.
