Description
Nos 27 and 28 Bruton Street are a pair of terrace houses built around 1739, likely designed by Isaac Ware. The buildings are constructed of brown brick, with No 27 featuring four storeys and three dormers in a slated mansard roof. It has three windows, and the ground floor includes a later 20th-century shop front with a reproduction early 18th-century doorcase. There is a brick plat band between the first and second floors, a moulded brick cornice above the second floor, and a parapet with coping. The windows are revealed sashes with red-brick dressings and gauged flat arches. The interior of No 27 retains an open string staircase with carved tread ends and turned balusters.
No 28 has three storeys plus later alterations that add two storeys of dormers. It features three windows and an additional half window bay on the first and second floors, along with a later 20th-century shop front. It shares the plat band and cornice with No 27. The first-floor windows are revealed sashes with flat gauged red brick arches and cast iron balconettes. The half bay and upper floor windows have segmental arches with red brick dressings, and the dormers are also segmental arched. The interior includes a panelled stairwell with an enriched Rococo plaster ceiling, as well as an open string staircase with carved tread ends and turned balusters.
