Description
Nos 95 to 99 Lancaster Gate is a mid-19th century terrace of houses designed by Sancton Wood. The building is finished in stucco and stands four storeys tall along the Bayswater Road facade, with a two-storey facade at the rear. The design is symmetrical, with each house featuring three windows. The ground floor and first floor have channelling and are recessed behind superimposed Doric and Ionic colonnades. Nos 95 and 99 each have a central canted three-storey bay window, adorned with Corinthian half columns on the second floor and a pediment above the central window on this floor. The centre house has similar half columns and a pediment but features a flat facade. The windows are square-headed, architraved sashes with plate glass, and there are cornices between the storeys. A prominent dentil cornice with a key frieze is located above the third floor. The central house also has circular windows in the attic. The rear facade is of architectural interest as well, showcasing a superimposed order to the channelled facade. This terrace was originally part of a larger group that included Nos 104 to 109 and is an integral part of the planned layout of Lancaster Gate.
