Description
This is a mid-19th century terrace of houses, originally designed as part of a larger scheme for Lancaster Gate. Numbers 104 to 109 form part of the terrace, with a different facade to the rear. The buildings are constructed of stucco, with four storeys facing Bayswater Road and two storeys to the rear. Each house is three windows wide. The principal facade features channelling to the ground and first floors, with a recessed colonnade composed of superimposed Doric and Ionic orders. Numbers 106 and 109 have central, three-storey bay windows, incorporating Corinthian half columns to the second floor and a pedimented central window on that floor. Number 108 has similar half columns and a pediment, but a flat facade. The windows are square-headed, architraved sashed windows with plate glass. Cornices delineate the floors, topped by a rich dentil cornice with a key frieze above the third floor. A return elevation is present on the right-hand side. The rear elevation is also of architectural interest, featuring a channelled facade with superimposed orders. These houses were originally part of a larger terrace, including numbers 95 to 99, and are an integral part of the planned layout of Lancaster Gate.
