Description
No. 37 Spital Square is an 18th-century building, likely reconstructed around the mid-18th century. It features a brown brick facade and a tiled mansard roof behind a parapet. The building has three storeys, a basement, and dormers. There are three windows, although most of the glazing bars are missing. The windows have gauged flat-arched heads and are set back from the wall. The wooden doorcase includes an architrave, carved brackets, and a cornice. Inside, there is a panelled interior with stairs that have a turned baluster and shaped ends, accessed through a Doric archway. The wrought iron area railings are damaged. No. 37 and the street lamp standard form a group with the buildings and walls of the Central Foundation School for Girls.
