Description
No. 2 The Square is a late 18th century building that stands three storeys tall. It features a chequered brick façade with a stone-capped parapet and a stone cornice. The roof is a slate mansard style with a stone-capped gable end, and there are two chimneys. The building has three windows on the top floor, which have flat arches and are set in a stone architrave with double-hung sashes that include glazing bars. On the first floor, there are three windows, with a band that continues along the cill of the centre window, flanked by two larger windows that have attractive iron balconettes. The ground floor has two three-light windows without glazing bars, also with flat arches, beneath a stone arched head that features a carved design. The central doorway is adorned with an open pediment and Doric pilasters, and it includes an ornamental glazed fanlight and a glass door. There is a stone plinth at the base, and a one-storey extension is located to the right. No. 2 The Square and the Congregational Chapel form a group with Nos 1 to 11 (odd) on Ock Street.
