Description
The Congregational Chapel, built in 1862, features an ashlar front elevation with brick sides and is located in front of a 1700 meeting house. The building has a pedimented design with acroteria and a glazed circular window. It stands two storeys tall and includes full-length piers at the corners, adorned with a swag in the frieze. There are three composite pilasters and four round-arched windows with moulded architraves, each featuring a long narrow keystone and a carved label below the cills. A moulded band runs between the pilasters. On the ground floor, there are two windows with similar heads, and two central double doors, each with two panels in a moulded architrave, a carved keystone, and a fanlight above a carved stone band. The entrance is accessed by two stone steps and is set on a plinth. Notably, two pillars in the Church Hall are reputed to be the masts of the "Mayflower." To the left, there is a two-storey extension with a rectangular bay window that has three panels at the base above a carriage archway. The building is topped with a slate roof. The Congregational Church and No. 2 form a group with Nos. 1 to 11 (odd) Ock Street.
