Description
No. 16 The Square is a house dating from around the mid-18th century. It has rendered stone walls and a hipped slate roof with a modillion cornice. There is a rendered stack at the right-hand end and a large original brick stack at the left end, featuring several shafts with conical tops. The house has a double depth plan with a central stair hall and two principal rooms at the front. It is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-window front. The original tripartite 4:12:4 pane sashes are present, along with a contemporary 12-pane sash in the centre on the first floor. The right-hand ground floor window is original but has had late 19th-century sashes inserted. The central entrance features an original pedimented door hood above a contemporary fielded six-panel door. The interior has been much altered in the early 20th century and has no visible original features.
