Description
The Town Hall, dated 1849, is located in The Square, North Tawton. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features a gable-ended slate roof with two gables at the front. The building has a double-depth plan with a central entrance hall and a room on either side.
The exterior is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window front. The right and left-hand bays are topped with pedimented gables and divided by stone pilasters, with stringcourses at both the floor and eaves levels. The original sash windows have depressed two-centred arched heads and projecting keystones, although the ground floor right-hand window is a 20th-century replica. The central doorway also features a similar arched head and keystone, inscribed with "J Parish builder 1849," and has 20th-century panelled double doors behind it.
Additionally, there are area railings at the front, on the left and right, which have spear heads on the shafts and stanchions.
