Description
No. 12 The Square is a house and shop dating from the early 19th century. It features plastered stone walls and a gable-ended asbestos slate roof. The building has a double-depth plan, with the house section on the left, likely containing two rooms, and a shop on the right.
The exterior is three storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with three windows. The original windows are 16-pane hornless sashes with moulded architraves, and the first-floor windows have projecting keystones. On the ground floor, there are two canted bay windows; the left-hand one is likely Victorian, while the right-hand one is original, featuring small panes and a moulded cornice. To the right, there is a projecting 19th-century shopfront that includes a 20th-century window and two 20th-century glazed doors, with the left-hand door leading to the house. The interior has not been inspected.
