Description
No. 13 The Square is a house that has been converted into a shop. It was dated 1713 but incorporates an earlier structure from 1577. The exterior is made of painted brick that encases a timber frame, topped with a plain tiled roof. The building has three storeys and features a three-window range. The windows are 8-pane sash types with flat-arched, finely gauged brick heads and moulded sills that have vestigial aprons. There is a doorway to the left and an early 20th-century shop front that includes a three-light window and plain consoles for the fascia. To the right, there is an entry to a passage. The roof has two pedimented dormers, and the eaves cornice overhangs with modillions. The building also features angle quoins and sill bands. On the side elevation, there is a moulded beam with the initials G.P and the date 1577. Inside, there is an early 18th-century staircase with turned balusters.
