Description
29A and 30 Princess Street are a pair of shops that were originally built as dwellings around 1720. The buildings are constructed of brick with stuccoed dressings and feature a plain tiled roof. They stand three storeys tall and have four bays, each with 18-pane sash windows set in moulded stuccoed architraves that have segmental heads and stressed keystones.
To the left, there is a narrow shop front, followed by a wide early 20th-century shop front that includes a central door and foliate consoles supporting the fascia. The buildings are adorned with stuccoed string courses and angle quoins. They have an overhanging moulded eaves cornice beneath a high parapet, which is topped with gabled dormers. The roof has axial and gable end stacks at the rear.
Inside, original staircases remain, with the staircase in No.29A extending to the full height of the building. These staircases feature turned balusters, moulded tread ends, and dado panelling. The upper rooms contain early 18th-century wall-panelling and fireplaces that have bolection-moulded surrounds.
