Description

The building comprises four houses at 8-14 Highshore Road, dating to the early 19th century. The facades are stuccoed on the ground floor to imitate ashlar, with the first floors of brick in a Flemish bond, except for No. 14, which is entirely stuccoed to imitate ashlar. Each pair of houses has a hipped slate roof.

The exterior is two storeys high, with two windows per house. All openings are flat-arched, and the first-floor windows (except at No. 14) have lintels of gauged brick. Each pair is largely identical, featuring entrances with overlights in the corners, projecting to form a full-height rectangular bay. A narrow recess exists on the party wall. A storey band separates the ground and first floors. The front wall recedes to the side of each entrance, creating a recessed range with a single flat-arched window on the first floor; the window above the entrance is narrower than the recessed window. The join between Nos. 10 & 12 has been partly filled in by a single-storey addition, and the left side of No. 14 has a similar addition. Windows on No. 8 have been rebuilt to an original design in the late 20th century. No. 12 retains 6x6 windows of an original design, while the first-floor window above the entrance has a concrete lintel. No. 14 has 6x6 sash windows with margin lights of the original design, and several recesses contain 2x4 sash windows with margin lights. The building has deep boxed eaves.

The interior has not been inspected. The building is included for group value with Nos. 7-11 (odd) and 16-19 (consecutive), and with the Post Office Depot.
