Description
This is a pair of houses, numbers 5 to 11, located on Jews Walk, dating from the third quarter of the 19th century. They are built in a Tudor style. Each house is two storeys high with three windows. The roofs are very steeply pitched, with tall chimneys; numbers 5 and 7 have red tiled roofs, while numbers 9 and 11 are slated. Numbers 5 and 7 are constructed of red brick with a pattern of blue headers, whereas numbers 9 and 11 are built of brownish stock brick, both with stone dressings, including quoins, alternating block window surrounds, and stone mullions to the windows. The windows are two- and three-light casements, with Tudor arches in those of numbers 5 and 7. There are gabled central bays with mock arrow slits. The recessed outer bays feature doors with Tudor-style arches set within square hoodmoulds. Ground floor canted bay windows have cornices adorned with gargoyles, some of which are missing. Numbers 1 to 11 (odd) form a group.
