Description
The Church of St Bartholomew was built between 1827 and 1832 by Lewis Vulliamy at a cost of £9,485. It is constructed from Suffolk brick with stone dressings and is designed in the Perpendicular style, featuring battlemented parapets, stepped and gabled buttresses, and headstopped hoodmoulds over the windows. The church includes a nave, aisles, a west tower, and porches on the north and south sides. An apsidal chancel was added in 1858, designed by Edwin Nash. In 1883, Nash widened the north aisle and added a vestry at its east end. The gallery was subsequently removed, and the altar was installed in 1901, with sanctuary panelling added in 1905. Some stained glass windows were created by Clayton and Bell.
