Description

40 and 42 Groveway are a pair of mid-19th century houses with a slightly Italianate style. Each building has two stories, an attic, and a basement, featuring a wide main bay with a narrower central entrance bay that is set back. The buildings are constructed of stock brick, although the main bay of No 40 has been rebuilt to match the original design. The basement is stuccoed, and the angle pilasters with stuccoed capitals support a wide open pedimented gable end that includes a lunette. The houses have sash windows with margin lights set in moulded architraves, and the ground floor features console bracketed cornices. Each house has a four-panel door located in the stuccoed central section, which is sheltered by a pent hood on brackets and accessed by five steps.
