Description
This is a pair of tall, early to mid-19th century terraces, comprising numbers 100, 102, 104, and 104A Vassel Road. The terraces are three storeys high with a basement, and generally have two windows each, except for number 104A, which has only one. The facades are constructed of stock brick with a stucco frieze, cornice, and blocking course, and a cill band extending across the basement and first floor. Sash windows with glazing bars are set within gauged brick arches, and the ground floor windows are recessed within round arches. Numbers 100 and 104 feature elliptical arched entrances flanked by pilasters bearing urns, topped with a cornice and a key block featuring a lion mask. These entrances have six-panel doors set back within moulded wood architraves, approached by seven steps with cast iron handrails. Number 102 has a similar arrangement of steps and door, with a cornice head and a fanlight within a prostyle Ionic porch. An entrance door has been inserted at basement level of number 104A. Internally, many original enriched plaster cornices remain, along with segmental arches on consoles over the hallways and slightly curved staircases.
