Description

This is a symmetrical terrace of early to mid-19th century houses numbered 21 to 37 Foxley Road. The terrace comprises fifteen houses, each originally two windows wide, with the end houses featuring added entrance bays. The central and end houses project forward and rise to four storeys, while the others are three storeys high, all with basements. The houses are constructed of stock brick with a stuccoed frieze and cornice, and a stone-coped brick parapet. The basement and ground floor are stuccoed, featuring banded rustication that forms voussoirs framing both round-arched door and window recesses, and elliptical door recesses in the outer bays. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars; the ground floor windows have a round head with radial glazing, and are set beneath flat, gauged brick arches. Ornamental cast iron balconies are present on the first floor. Tripartite windows are found in the basements. The original doors are three-panelled, with panelled pilasters, a corniced head and a plain fanlight. Flights of nine new steps to door terraces bridge a basement area which was widened during rehabilitation work. Protecting end walls have been added to the outer bays.
