Description

This is a row of early 19th century houses, originally designed as linked pairs, located on the east side of Clapham Road. The properties, numbered 27 to 41, were initially three storeys high with basements and each pair had two windows. Single-storey entrance links connected the pairs, though many of these have since been raised to two storeys or built up to the full height. The houses are built of stock brick with parapets, and those at numbers 35 and 37 have been cemented. Sash windows are set within gauged brick arches; approximately half have glazing bars, with the ground floor windows featuring a round-headed shape set within round-arched recesses that have stucco impost blocks. Numbers 27 to 33, 39 and 41 have an impost string. The doors are mostly modern replacements, but numbers 29 and 31 retain patterned radial fanlights. Later windows have been inserted at various points. The doors of numbers 35 to 41 are six-panelled, with a glazed section, cornice head, fluted quadrant pilasters, and a fanlight, all set beneath a gauged round brick arch.
