Description

This is a terraced row of houses located on Liverpool Road, dating from the early 19th century. The buildings are constructed in Flemish bond using yellow stock brick and stucco, with the upper storeys painted. The roofs are hidden behind a parapet, and there are brick stacks on the party walls. The houses follow a side hall plan and are three storeys high, each with two windows.

The ground floors are rendered with a rusticated stucco finish, featuring round-arched openings with rendered keystones. The windows are recessed sash types, with curved and radiating sash bars. The doorways have fluted pilaster jambs topped with a corniced head, and each has a floral patterned fanlight above a panelled door. Notably, No. 407 has an altered doorway.

The first floors are made of brick, with a stucco sill band beneath full-length, square-headed sash windows. All windows are architraved with cornices and have 20th-century wrought iron guards. The second floors also feature architraved square-headed sashes. No. 407 has plain brick cornices, while No. 409 is adorned with Corinthian pilasters that extend through the first and second floors, supporting an entablature, blocking course, and a palmette acroterion. Additionally, No. 409 has a three-dimensional sculpture of a bird, and No. 407 includes acroteria as well.
