Description

Numbers 17-20 Cloudesley Street are a group of terraced houses dating from circa 1836. They are constructed of yellow brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with stucco detailing. The roofs are hidden behind a parapet. The houses are three storeys high, with a basement, and each has two windows.

The basement and ground floors are stuccoed, with the ground floor featuring chamfered rustication. The round-arched entrance has panelled pilasters, a fanlight with decorative glazing, and an original panelled door. The ground-floor window is also round-arched. The stucco finishes at a sill band. Upper-floor windows are flat-arched; the first-floor windows are of a grander "piano nobile" proportion, with architraves and cornices, and individual cast-iron balconies. The second-floor windows have architraves. The original sash windows remain in place, with the exception of the ground-floor window at number 17, and the first and second-floor windows at numbers 18, 19, and 20. The parapet is stuccoed, and there are stacks built into the party walls.

Cast-iron railings with spearhead finials are present at the steps and area.
