Description
Numbers 1-8 on Belgrove Street is a terrace of eight houses, built around 1834-1839, which are now mostly small hotels. The buildings are constructed from yellow stock brick, with the ground floors of Nos 1-3 featuring stucco. There is a stucco band at the first floor level, and the roofs are slated mansards with dormers. The terrace stands three storeys high, with attics and basements, and each house has two windows.
The ground floor openings are round-arched, and the doorways are framed with architraved stucco, featuring pilaster-jambs that support cornice-heads. The doorways have patterned fanlights and panelled doors, with the doors for Nos 2, 6, 7, and 8 being 20th-century reproductions. All doors are 20th-century reproductions except for No. 4. The ground floor windows for Nos 1, 2, and 3 retain their original margin lights. The recessed sash windows have gauged brick flat arches, and the first floor features cast-iron balconies. The terrace is topped with stucco capped parapets.
The attached cast-iron railings have tasselled spearhead finials. The interiors have not been inspected.
