Description

Numbers 7-25 are a terrace of 19 houses, now mostly small hotels, located on the east side of Argyle Square. They were built between 1840 and 1849 and have been altered over time. The houses are constructed of yellow stock brick, with Nos 7, 9, 10, and 16-18 painted. The ground floors of these houses feature rusticated stucco, while the ground floors of Nos 6, 11, 12, 14, 15, and 19-25 are painted. The terrace consists of four storeys and basements, with two windows for each house. The ground floor openings are architraved and round-arched. Where the doorways remain unaltered, they have pilaster-jambs that support cornice-heads, along with patterned fanlights and panelled doors. The entrance to No. 7 is located in a single-storey stucco extension on the left-hand return. Nos 7 and 25 have square-headed ground floor windows. The upper floors feature a variety of recessed casements and sash windows with gauged brick flat arches; the first floors have architraves and cast-iron balconies. The terrace is topped with parapets. The interiors have not been inspected. Additionally, there are attached cast-iron railings with bud finials surrounding the areas in front of the houses.
