Description

A terrace of six houses, numbers 48 to 54, now the Wardonia Hotel, and numbers 56 and 58, built around 1839 to 1849. The buildings are constructed of yellow stock brick, with channelled cement on the ground floors of numbers 48 to 52, and a painted ground floor at number 54. Numbers 48 to 54 have slated mansard roofs with dormers and attic floors, in addition to three main storeys. Each house has two windows. The ground floor features round-arched openings. Doorways to numbers 48 to 52 have cement surrounds; numbers 54 to 58 have stucco surrounds, with pilaster jambs, cornice heads, fanlights (patterned on numbers 56 and 58), and panelled doors. Ground floor windows have margin lights, with numbers 56 and 58 featuring intersecting tracery. Upper floor windows have gauged brick flat arches over recessed sash windows. The buildings have parapets. The interiors have not been inspected. Attached cast-iron railings with urn finials mark the areas. The group value of the building lies in its contribution to the historic streetscape.
