Description
This is a terrace of 23 houses, located at 18-62 Camden Road, with attached railings. The buildings date to the early 19th century, with shops inserted in the mid-19th century. The construction is predominantly yellow stock brick, with rusticated stucco to the ground floors or stucco shopfronts. Some first-floor facades are painted.
The houses are three storeys high, with Nos. 26-62 also having attic storeys, and all have basements. Most have two windows, except No. 62, which projects slightly and has three windows, alongside a blind three-window return to Camden Street. Nos. 18-34, 40, 46, 48 and 58 have stucco shopfronts with pilasters supporting an entablature, flanked by simplified scrolls, although shop windows and doorways have been altered. The shopfronts at Nos. 18 and 26 have also been altered.
Nos. 36 and 38, 42 and 44, 50-56 and 60 and 62 have round-arched doorways with patterned fanlights and panelled doors. The upper floors feature gauged brick flat arches over recessed sash windows. Nos. 36, 42 and 44, 50-56 and 60-62 have cast-iron balconies to the first floor. A stucco cornice and blocking course is present at Nos. 18-24. Nos. 26-62 have a stucco cornice and band at third-floor level, with a parapet above the attic storey; the cornice is missing from No. 32.
The interiors were not inspected during the listing process. The attached cast-iron railings have spearhead finials in areas where present.
