Description

This is a terrace of fifteen houses, built in the 1840s, with one house featuring a contemporary shopfront. The terrace is located on the south west side of Arlington Road. The houses are constructed of stock brick, with rendered ground floors, projecting brick bands, and slate roofs topped with party wall stacks. The houses are two windows wide with a front door to the left of each, and they extend over three storeys with basements. All windows are glazing bar sashes set within moulded architraves. The first-floor windows have cast-iron balconies decorated with crossed spear motifs. The parapets of numbers 11 and 23-31 are rendered. The front doors are recessed within moulded doorcases, with console bracket porches. Numbers 15-23 have patterned panelled doors, while numbers 5-13 and 29-31 have long, rectangular panelled doors. All windows include square toplights, with decorative tracery to the windows of numbers 5, 15, 27-31. Number 31 retains its original shopfront on the right return, now used as an office. Numbers 3, 13, and 21 have mansard roofs which are not of particular historical interest. The interiors of the houses have not been inspected. Cast-iron railings remain in front of numbers 15 and 21.
