Description
This is a terrace of 23 houses, built in the 1840s. The houses are constructed of stock brick with a rendered ground floor and basement. They have slate roofs and party wall stacks. Each house is two windows wide, with a door to the right, and stands three storeys high above a basement. The houses at numbers 101 to 131 have rendered parapets; those at numbers 109 to 131 have moulded parapets. The ground floors of numbers 101 to 107 have a channelled brick facade with voussoir mouldings. All of the windows are small-pane glazing bar sashes. Upper-floor windows are set within moulded architraves, while ground-floor windows are round arched with margin lights. The window above number 135 is also round-arched, but set beneath a square head. The doorcases are moulded with round-arched toplights under voussoirs, and include panelled doors. Number 133 has a decorated fanlight. Number 137 was rebuilt in facsimile above the first floor, and incorporates tie plates. Numbers 101, 105 and 145 have had mansard roof extensions added, which are not considered to be of particular architectural interest. The interiors have not been inspected. The houses possess attached railings to their areas. This is an intact group of terraced houses, with its defining features remaining largely unaltered. The group value derives from its cohesive design and historic significance as a well-preserved example of 1840s housing.
