Description

Numbers 55 and 56 are a pair of mid to late 19th-century terraced houses located on Mornington Terrace in Camden. They are constructed from yellow stock brick and feature stucco quoins and dressings. The houses have slate roofs with projecting bracketed eaves and tall brick chimney-stacks, and they sit on a corner site with an irregular facade.

The buildings rise four storeys and include basements. Number 55 has one window and a recessed entrance bay, while Number 56 features a large octagonal corner tower with fenestrated alternate facades, three windows (including one in a projecting bay), and a recessed entrance bay facing Delancey Street. Both houses have projecting stucco porticoes, with doorways that include fanlights and panelled doors. Number 55 has a stuccoed canted bay at the ground floor, with recessed sashes that have lugged stucco surrounds, and round-arched windows on the second floor. Number 56 has segmental-headed sashes, and the corner facade of the tower's upper floors is architraved, with a round-arched window on the first floor and square-headed, architraved sashes in the projecting bay. A panelled stucco band runs at eaves level.

The interiors have not been inspected. The houses are complemented by attached cast-iron railings with fleur-de-lys finials surrounding the areas.
