Description
The former London County Council Tramways Substation, built in 1908 by the London County Council's Architect's Department, is an electricity substation located on Arlington Road in Camden. The building is constructed of stock brick with stone bands and features a slate roof with a stack at the rear. It has a rectangular design, highlighted by a simple clerestoried hall at the back and a dignified facade at the front. The central entrance is located beneath a glazed tympanum on the rusticated ground floor, where the windows are set back in moulded surrounds and topped with channelled brick voussoirs. The upper wall is plain brick, adorned with a stone and brick cornice, and features a set-back frieze with three moulded panels. Above this is a pediment framed by stone.
