Description

Mornington Crescent London Railway Transport Station is a London Underground station built in 1907 by Leslie Green. It features maroon glazed faience and consists of two storeys. The station has two bays facing Hampstead Road and one bay on the left return. Each bay is framed by giant arches supported by pilasters, with architraved heads and keystones. The upper parts of the arches are designed as glazed tympana and are flanked by lugged architraved sash windows. The entrance is located to the right, with lifts in the left-hand bay, and there is a 20th-century shop in the return bay. A white band runs at the first-floor level, topped by a modillion cornice and a blocking course above a white faience frieze that displays the words "Mornington Crescent Station" on both facades. The Hampstead Road facade retains original cast-iron lamp brackets and lamps at the entrances.

Inside, some original features remain, including panelled exterior lift doors, Art Nouveau decorative grilles above the indicators, and lift interiors. The tiles have been restored, and the ticket-office window has been replaced.
