Description

Number 1 Mornington Crescent is an early 19th-century end-of-terrace house, built around 1821 to 1832. It forms the left-hand return bay of the facade of Number 263 Hampstead Road. The house is constructed of stucco, with a rusticated ground floor. It has four storeys and a basement, and is arranged with four windows, with a slightly projecting two-window bay in the centre and a single-window return to Hampstead Road. Pilasters rise from the ground floor at the corners of the house, paired on the left side, and form an entablature at the third-floor level. A prostyle portico, with pilasters, provides access to a 20th-century panelled front door with a radial fanlight above. The windows are architraved sashes. The first floor features architraved casements, with a continuous cast-iron balcony; the centre windows are flanked by pilasters and have cornice heads with segmental-arched recesses above. A deep, slightly shaped parapet tops the building. The interior has not been inspected.
