Description
Eversholt House, originally the London & North-Western Region Railway Clearing House, is an office block built around 1846-1848, with later additions made in 1850 and between 1874 and 1902. It was designed by JB Stansby, the company engineer, and underwent renovation in the late 20th century. The building is an irregular block in a Classical style, constructed from yellow stock brick, featuring a stone cornice and blocking course. It has three storeys and basements, with four storeys at the north end, and contains 53 windows. The facade is characterized by slightly recessed bays and varying cornice heights. There are round-arched entrances with stucco block dressings, keystones, and fanlights, as well as architraved doorways with cornices and panelled doors. The doorways are flanked by architraved windows with cornices, and recessed sash windows with glazing bars are topped with gauged brick flat arches. Above the entrances are three-light windows, and a main stone cornice is located at the second floor level. The interior was not inspected. The building also features attached cast-iron railings with urn finials.
