Description

A pair of semi-detached houses dating from the early 19th century is located on Downshire Hill, Camden. The houses are constructed of stucco and have shallow hipped, slated roofs with projecting eaves and a central chimney stack. They rise three stories above a basement. Each house has two windows, plus a one-story entrance extension to number 47 and a two-story extension to number 48. The round-arched doorways feature fanlights, the design of which is patterned on number 47, with panelled doors. The windows are recessed sash windows. The first floor has French windows, each accompanied by a continuous cast-iron balcony. The interiors were not inspected. Attached to the houses are low stuccoed garden walls with cast-iron railings, along with gate piers and a gate. This represents group value; the buildings contribute to the character and appearance of the surrounding area.
