Description

This is a terrace of 21 houses built around 1821 to 1826. The houses are made of yellow stock brick, with some later patching, and No. 7 has been refronted. The first floor features plain stucco sill bands, while there is a stucco cornice at the third floor level. The terrace is symmetrical, with slightly projecting end bays at Nos. 240 Grays Inn Road and 21, and central bays at Nos. 7 to 13. The buildings are four storeys high with basements, each having two windows. The ground floor openings are round-arched, and the doorways have reeded surrounds, cornice-heads, and fanlights, with patterned fanlights at Nos. 1, 5, 9, 11, 17, and 19. The entrance to No. 21 is on the return to Gough Street and features a 20th-century doorway and door. The ground floor windows at Nos. 17 and 21 have margin lights, while No. 19 has pointed lights. The windows have gauged brick flat arches and recessed sashes, most of which include glazing bars. Nos. 5 to 15, 19, and 21 have cast-iron balconies at the first floor windows. The terrace has parapets. The interiors have not been inspected. Additionally, there are attached cast-iron railings with urn finials surrounding the areas.
