Description
Number 26 is an end of terrace house, projecting with its main facade facing Gough Street, built around 1823 to 1828 by N Stallwood. The ground floor was altered in the later 19th century. It is constructed of yellow stock brick, featuring a rusticated stucco ground floor and a plain band at the first floor. There is a stucco cornice at the third floor level. The building has four storeys and a basement, with two windows facing Calthorpe Street and three windows (one of which is blind) facing Gough Street. The ground floor has round-arched openings, and the doorway is framed by an architraved hood with moulded impost bands that connect to the architraved window hoods. The door is recessed and panelled, with quarter columns and a radial fanlight above. The ground floor windows are set in shallow plain stucco recesses and include margin lights. There are gauged brick flat arches above the recessed sashes, with the first floor windows on Calthorpe Street and the left-hand window on Gough Street featuring cast-iron balconies. The building has a parapet. The attached cast-iron railings with spearhead finials are present in the areas. The interior has not been inspected.
