Description

Number 1 is a terraced house built between 1801 and 1804, though it may include elements from an earlier structure, as suggested by the cobbled wall on the side facing Edward Street and the shape of the roof. The house features a combination of stucco and cobbles, with a tiled roof.

The exterior consists of three storeys above a basement, with dormers and a two-window range. The ground floor is decorated with banded rustication. It has a flat-arched entrance flanked by pilasters and an entablature. All floors have flat-arched, tripartite windows, with original glazing bars on the ground floor and partially on the first and second floors. There is a cast-iron window guard on the ground floor, and a bracketed balcony with a cast-iron balustrade on the first floor. A sill band is present on the second floor, and the left-hand window is blank. The building has a cornice and blocking course, with dormers on both western slopes of the two-span M-shaped roof, and a stack on the party wall.

On the return to Edward Street, the ground floor is cobbled while the rest is stuccoed. The ground floor features segmental-arched windows with brick dressings, and there are no first-floor windows. All windows are blank except for the westernmost ones on the second and third floors, which have original 6/6 and 3/6 sash windows.

The interior has not been inspected. The property is also accompanied by cast-iron area railings topped with spear-and-tassel finials.
