Description

Number 7 is a late 18th-century terraced house on the east side of Dorset Gardens, Brighton. It is built with cobbles and has painted brick dressings and quoins. The roof is hidden behind a parapet. The house has three storeys, plus a half basement, and a two-window front. A flat-arched entrance is framed by pilasters that support brackets holding the raking cornices of a broken pediment, forming a porch. To the right is a tripartite, camber-arched window. The first and second floors also contain similar windows. The sashes are largely original, with some original glazing. The first-floor window has side sashes of 2 x 3 panes and a central sash of 6 x 9 panes with margin lights at the bottom. The second-floor tripartite window has side sashes of 2 x 2 panes, and a central light of 6 x 6 panes. Above the entrance, there is one window on each floor, these having been altered but retaining their camber-arched heads. Quoin strips in brick run up the party walls above the ground floor; all windows have brick dressings. A brick parapet and flashing course top the facade, and there is one flat-arched dormer window. The interior has not been inspected. Original railings are present to the stairs and area.
