Description
The building known as part of the Doctor's Surgery and The Market Cafe is located in Mildenhall Market Place. It is likely the right-hand section of what was once a single house, dating from the late 16th century with 19th-century alterations. The structure features a three-cell lobby-entrance plan and stands two storeys high with attics. It is constructed of timber framing and rendered, with the upper floor jettied on chamfered brackets. The roof is plaintiled and includes segmental-headed 19th-century casement dormers, along with a 17th or 18th-century axial chimney made of gault brick. The first floor has 19th-century horizontally sliding casements, while the ground floor features splayed bay windows from the 19th and 20th centuries. Number 9 has a 19th-century six-panelled entrance door, while the other two doors are panelled and glazed. Inside, there is a good clasped-purlin roof and areas of timber framing that are exposed.
