Description
The Nationwide Building Society, originally a house, is now used as offices. It was built in the mid-18th century and features gault brick in Flemish bond, with a rendered plinth, a brick band at the first floor, and a dentil eaves cornice. The hipped roof is covered with machine-made clay plain tiles. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a symmetrical three-bay facade.
On the ground floor, there are two two-paned horned sash windows that are slightly inset and sit under segmental brick arches. The first floor has six six-paned sash windows in flush frames. The doorway features a Gibbs surround, supported by two projecting brick courses above the plinth level, with a fluted keystone that extends into a pediment. There is a 20th-century three-quarter-glazed door, and above the doorway is a segmental-headed recessed panel.
The building has two gabled dormers, each with horned sash windows of three panes and plain bargeboards. There are also two matching chimney stacks on either side of the roof, which have red brick bands and corbelled caps. The interior has been altered, and the first floor and attic were not inspected.
