Description
20 and 21A Buttermarket is a shop and office building, originally a shop and house, dating from the early 19th century, with some older fragments. The front is made of white brick and features a parapet and a modillion cornice, topped by a slate roof. The building has three storeys and a four-window range, with all windows being small-paned sashes set in plain reveals with stone sills. The first-storey windows are adorned with cast-iron balconies that have honeysuckle ornamentation. There is a raised brick band between the first and second storeys.
Inside, most original features are concealed. On the top storey, the slope of the original roof is visible on the north side, while the south side has a 19th-century brick wall laid in English Bond, which has been faced with 20th-century fletton bricks on the outside.
