Description
21 and 21A Payton Street is a town house that has been converted into two houses. It dates from the early 19th century and has undergone some alterations. The building is constructed of brick with a stucco front and features a low-pitched hipped asbestos tile roof with a rear brick lateral stack. It is designed in the Georgian style and consists of two storeys.
The front facade is symmetrical with a three-window range, and there is a later single-window range to the right. The building has a moulded stucco plinth, a top frieze, and a cornice. The main entrance features a Tuscan aedicule and an overlight with decorative glazing bars above a two-fielded-panel door. The entrance at the right end has an overlight above a 20th-century door.
The windows on the ground floor have sills and 16-pane sash windows, while the first floor has 12-pane sashes, one of which is horned. The returns of the building have a modillioned brick cornice. The left return includes a late 19th-century two-storey canted bay window with a French window and small-paned casements.
